Compression Therapy

Compression Therapy

Graduated compression hose are essential in treating venous disease. The numbers on the hose indicate pressure levels; for instance, "30-40 mmHg" means the pressure at the ankle and thigh or knee. Hose with pressures up to 15-20 mmHg can be bought over the counter, while 20-30 mmHg and 30-40 mmHg require a doctor's prescription and proper sizing.

For ease of use, specialized tools like the "Hose Buddy" can assist patients in putting on prescription compression hose. Layering two sets of 15-20 mmHg hose can create the equivalent of 30-40 mmHg pressure. T.E.D. hose, meant for bed use, is insufficient for ambulatory patients with vein disease.

Common uses of graduated compression hose include symptom relief, conservative management of venous disease, post-treatment compliance, and chronic use for advanced vein disease cases. The goal is to help patients feel and look better without reliance on compression hose, emphasizing the importance of timely treatment to avoid complications.

We carry various sizes and brands of compression hose in stock and can order specific styles or brands, usually available within a few days.
